How many documents can I store for free?
The free version includes up to 10 documents with every feature included. The Documents Unlimited one-time purchase removes the limit. There is no subscription.
I bought Documents Unlimited on one device. How do I get it on another?
Purchases are tied to your Apple Account. On the new device, open Papers and use Restore Purchases. As long as you are signed in with the same Apple Account, the purchase comes right back at no charge.
Where are my documents stored?
On your devices and in your private iCloud database, which also keeps your iPhone and iPad in sync. There are no third-party servers, and the developer can never see your documents.
How does the AI work? Is it private?
Papers uses Apple Intelligence to read your documents, write titles, pick tags, extract key details, and answer questions. Requests are handled by Apple's models, either directly through Apple Intelligence or through Apple's Private Cloud Compute. Your documents are never sent to any third-party AI service.
If you want a document kept out of AI entirely, mark it Confidential. Confidential documents are excluded from AI analysis, AI search, and sharing.
Why does it say "AI is taking a little break"?
Apple Intelligence is occasionally busy or unavailable. When that happens, Papers waits and shows you instant keyword search results instead, so you can always find your documents. Come back later and try again, or use Reanalyze on a document once AI is available.
The AI gave me a wrong answer. What should I do?
AI results can be wrong, which is why every answer cites its source documents as tappable chips. Always double-check important details like amounts and due dates against the original document. You can also edit any title or tag, and use Reanalyze to run the analysis again.
Can I keep a document out of AI and sharing completely?
Yes. Mark it Confidential. That document is then excluded from AI analysis, AI search, and sharing entirely. You can also skip analysis for any document, cancel an analysis while it runs, or reanalyze whenever you like.
Can I share documents with family?
Yes. Put documents into a list and share the whole list through iCloud collaboration. Everyone you invite sees the same list, kept in sync. You can also share any single document as a PDF.
Which devices does Papers support?
Papers runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 27 or later. AI features require a device that supports Apple Intelligence. Everything else works on every device running iOS 27.
Does Papers have accounts, ads, or analytics?
No, no, and no. There is nothing to sign up for, no ads, and no analytics or tracking of any kind. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
